RWC HANDS-ON DAYS WORKSHOP AT HAK DEUTSCHLANDSBERG

Dive into the fascinating world of business and discover how the gears in the business world interlock. Experience how numbers and theories become tangible reality and how every decision can have far-reaching consequences.

In the workshop organised by our Department of Accounting & Controlling, the students of HAK Deutschlandsberg had the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in a lively business simulation. They experienced the thrill of entrepreneurship, juggled tax formulas, designed their own keychains, enjoyed the perfect drink at the coffee shop, and philosophised as students about their professional future. They not only learned dry facts but also felt the economy up close – with all its ups and downs.

The workshop offered a varied and practical program, divided into different stations:

🏭 Production: Participants made keychains and sold them afterward. They experienced the entire production process, from purchasing raw materials to manufacturing and selling the finished products. They had to compare manufacturing costs and sales revenues accurately to create a "year-end financial statement" and pay taxes to the state. This experience gave them a realistic insight into the world of production and financial management.

🛒 Store: In inventory management and sales, students learned the importance of well-organised logistics and an effective sales system. They had to restock inventory, boost sales, and pay both corporate tax (KÖSt) and value-added tax (USt) to the state. This station illustrated the challenges of retail and the importance of careful financial planning.

☕ Coffeeshop: Whether as a barista or an entrepreneur, this area focused on the service sector. Participants learned how they could influence their "salary" through direct customer interaction. This station highlighted the importance of customer service and business management in the service sector.

🏛️ State: In the role of tax officials, students collected taxes and distributed funds in the form of subsidies. They learned how the state manages its revenues and expenditures and the responsibilities involved. This experience provided insight into public administration and the significance of taxes for society.

🎉 Leisure: Of course, leisure time was also considered. Students had the opportunity to shop, relax in the coffee shop, or save cleverly. This station emphasised the importance of a balanced work-life ratio and how personal financial decisions can influence life.

📚 Studies: As professors or students, participants deepened their knowledge of economics. They thoroughly explored various economic topics and discussed theoretical foundations and practical applications. This station offered an academic perspective on the economy and demonstrated the importance of education and continuous learning.

The workshop was an absolute highlight, and the students' enthusiasm was contagious. Their feedback ranged from "As a CEO, I rock this!" to "Cool, look at what I already know!" These positive reactions show how valuable and inspiring such practical experiences are for young people.
