Automation Projects

Since September 2022, the Department of Automation Technology has been offering the course “Automation Technology - Business” in the Master's Degree program Automation project an, welche im 1. Semester statt findet.

Automation technology tasks are solved by combining the fields of electrical engineering/electronics, computer science and mechanical engineering as well as methods, processes and technologies of automation technology.
This requires the task to be broken down into individual subtasks, taking into account different solution alternatives and the resulting mutual influences and dependencies. This process is exemplified by a project carried out by the students. The necessary activities in this interdisciplinary project are undertaken by the students in teams.

Examples of such activities:

  • Mechanical design
  • Electrical planning
  • Hardware selection
  • Computer selection (PC, PLC, single-board computer such as Raspberry Pi or Arduino ...)
  • Programming
  • Control and regulation
  • Networking of machines and devices
  • Vertical and horizontal integration
  • General automation and economic considerations

Sub-tasks are assigned to the students' existing skills, interdisciplinary teams are formed and their strengths and experiences are presented and conveyed to each other. Overall, the Master's degree program combines practice and theory, promotes professional self-reflection and encourages the mutual exchange and transfer of knowledge. In addition to predefined teaching projects, company projects are also offered and students can submit their own project proposals.

The projects are carried out in teams, with the team's work being documented in a written report. At the end of the semester, the individually prepared presentations and results of the projects are presented.
